Overview
FilmBase is an offline-first desktop application. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
Data We Collect
Your Project Data
All project data (scripts, budgets, schedules, cast & crew information, storyboards, and any other content you create) is stored locally on your device by default. FilmBase does not collect, access, or store your project data on its own servers. The only time project data leaves your computer is when you choose to collaborate (see Collaboration & Sync below).
Collaboration & Sync
Collaboration is optional and off until you turn it on. When enabled, it runs entirely peer-to-peer over your local network: project changes, invitations, and attached files travel directly between teammates' computers. Nothing is sent to any server, no third party sits in the middle, and FilmBase never stores or accesses your project content. Your production data stays between your computers.
Subscriptions and access
FilmBase is available as a subscription through the Apple App Store and the Microsoft Store. Your subscription is checked on your device through the store you bought it from, so the app knows whether your access is active. There is no separate FilmBase licensing server, and none of your project data is sent for this check.
Payments
The store you subscribe through handles the payment, either the Apple App Store or the Microsoft Store. They collect and process your payment details under their own privacy policies. FilmBase never sees or stores your card details. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time from your Apple Account or Microsoft account.
Weather on call sheets
When you add map coordinates to a location and generate a call sheet for a shoot day there, FilmBase sends those coordinates to a weather service to fetch the forecast shown on the sheet. Only the coordinates go out. No personal details or project content are included, and this happens only when you use the weather feature.
How We Use Your Data
- To confirm whether your subscription is active
- To provide customer support when you contact us
- To send important product updates or security notices (you can opt out)
What We Don't Do
- We do not collect analytics or telemetry from the application
- We do not track your usage of the software
- We do not sell, share, or rent your personal information to third parties
- We do not store your project data on our own servers, and we never access the contents of your projects
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
- Apple App Store and Microsoft Store, subscription billing and delivery for the app-store versions
- A weather service, used only to fetch the forecast shown on a call sheet
These services have their own privacy policies governing how they handle your data.
Data Retention
Your billing details are held by the store you subscribed through, not by us. If you have contacted support, we keep that correspondence for a reasonable period so we can follow up on the issue. You can ask us to delete the data we hold at any time by contacting us.
